Discrimination in any form is still prevalent in our society despite sensitivity training and the straightjacket doctrine of political correctness applied in many companies and even sponsored by the government. As we see it, discrimination will never disappear. One common perception about discrimination against people impaired of hearing is that it is based on the fact that he the person has a hearing aid meticulously placed near or on his ear. This is totally incorrect because the discrimination revolves on the fact he could not hear what was said or he misunderstood the message due to his hearing impairment. People who don’t use any hearing aids tend to act in a weird manner and such causes a stream of laughter. Observe that in bar rooms, the jokes are pointed to the fact that someone did not hear properly the message rather than he is wearing a hearing aid. In other words, there is nothing wrong wearing a piece or a pair of hearing aids on one’s ear.

Let’s take a look at people with some eye defects. Correction glasses are used to conceal vision disorders, and there are very few bar room jokes against people wearing glasses. Actually, the use of glasses prevents the person from being a subject of ridicule and laughter. The same is true with hearing aids. People who wear them act as if there is nothing wrong with their hearing. Why? It is because the tools help them to act normal. There is no need to move closer to the speaker or place one’s palm as if the collect the sounds.
